There's just something about the heat and humidity of summer that finds my family ordering more take-out or eating in restaurants more often -- we just can't bring ourselves to cook! And while I enjoy the break from the kitchen, I do worry about how this effects our health as well as our budget. One local place that helps us stay on track on both fronts is Helen's Restaurant, a great little family diner/restaurant right in the center of Concord. It's been around since 1936 and is a town staple.
The atmosphere is casual and bustling as they seem to always be crowded! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as ice cream, and the ice cream 'bar' is just as busy as the restaurant. The food is cooked to order, fresh and they have generous portions. The other night I had an awesome salmon wrap and my husband really enjoyed his burrito.
The wait staff is friendly and accommodating and were so nice to my daughter. If the booths are all taken, try to get a seat at the counter in the back, where you can get a real flavor of the atmosphere and how hard the staff works. Everyone seems to know each other here, I just love it! Other favorites: all their salads and the lobster roll. Just remember to bring your wallet because it's cash only!!
