When I took Wes to his check-up the other day, it really struck me that there were just as many dads in the waiting room with their kids as there were moms -- and it's not the only place I'm seeing this. As we're approaching Father's Day, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge all the hard-working dads out there, who are increasingly involved in their kids' day-to-day lives, not just the traditional role as coach.
Thank you to the dads who arrange their work schedule to be at school drop-off and pick-up, who volunteer at their kids' school and are active with the local PTO, who attend concerts and plays and games, thanks to the dads who arrange car pools and play dates, supervise sleep overs and make supper. A funny story -- when June was maybe 2 or 3 I asked her who the best mommy was and without hesitation she said, "DADDY!!"
There's definitely a special bond between a dad and a daughter -- my dad was a huge influence on my life and I'm really excited that we're going together to take June to her first Red Sox game this week, so this appreciation includes grandfathers, too!
To all the dads out there, a heartfelt thanks and well done!
