Building with Today's Buyers in Mind -- Cottages at Depot Crossing

One of our most exciting projects at Suzanne & Company this year is The Cottages at Depot Crossing, a green sustainable condominium community. We are honored and excited to be a part of this groundbreaking project from the beginning. The developer is a former client, and they approached us to market the units, advise on pricing, design elements and tweaks to the layouts.

According to Realtor Magazine, this project is on the leading edge of several trends, including sustainable construction, classic, affordable design, drought resilient landscaping, and smaller living spaces. This timely project combines all of the modern amenities discerning buyers are looking for while satisfying eco-conscious buyers with low environmental impact inside and out, and an extraordinary location near commuting routes, and walkable distances to schools, shopping, entertainment and recreation (including the Minuteman Bikeway).

The 9 free-standing, approximately 2,100 square foot units at the Cottages at Depot Crossing were designed with close attention to both form and function.  These Five Star energy-rated homes include Energy Star appliances, and take advantage of the most current green design concepts to attain a HERS rating that exceeds requirements.  Each home features elegant touches and the classic finishes that make a house a home.

This rare new construction project in Bedford features moderate-sized units ideal for young families and down-sizers. The reasonably priced units offer flexible floor plans with options for buyers to choose their finishes and customized upgrades. Standard features include efficient, radiant heating on the 1st floor, and cutting edge building materials such as closed cell spray foam insulation, WindsorONE + Tru-Core trim, and HardiePlank siding. Besides being fashioned from recyclable materials, these building materials are durable and don’t need to be replaced, painted or maintained as frequently as traditional materials, contributing to a low environmental impact.

Each unit has a private garden area. And the attention to detail continues in the exterior spaces with permeable driveways to minimize rain run-off, low-maintenance paver patios (no decks to be sanded, oiled, or stained), and landscaping includes rain gardens and native plants to ensure there is no negative impact on the protected wetlands abutting the community.

The unique location of Cottages at Depot Crossing provides a direct link to The Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, which travels from Bedford through Lexington, Arlington, and into Cambridge with access to the Alewife T station. And the Hartwell Town Forest George Jordan Conservation Area provides opportunities for hiking and communing with nature literally just across the street.
