Carlisle Town Information

Carlisle is one of the more rural suburbs of Boston. Its landscape is marked with open fields, and weathered barns. A quarter of the towns open space is protected conservation land. The purpose of this conservation land is to protect wildlife, farmland and forestland. With so much of Carlisle’s land under this special government protection, the opportunities for exploring, hiking or just viewing the surrounding beauty are endless. There are several miles of trails reserved for hiking, and biking, many of them wheelchair accessible.

Carlisle owns over 150 acres of Cranberry Bog, which also includes an operating cranberry bog! Berries harvested from the Cranberry Bog are on sale at the ice cream stand in Great Brook Farm State Park.

With so much open space available, Carlisle is an ideal setting for outdoor recreation. Carlisle offers groomed cross-country ski trails that are lighted at night for evening skiers. In the summer months, bicycle timed trials take place in the center of town! Also Carlisle is home to Great Brook Farm State Park. This park offers canoeing, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, historical resources and more.
